Want to know everything there is to know about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs)? Well go no further than this comic. Released in 1968 by Gold Key, UFO Flying Saucers illustrated the US public fascination, sometimes mania, with all things UFO that started in the 1940s and continued into the late 70s.
While UFOs and aliens have been comic mainstays since Superman landed in a Kansas cornfield in Action #1, few comics titles have devoted themselves exclusively to the concept. This comic takes the whole UFO phenomenon to a whole new level. This first issue isn't merely a rehashing of alien destruction or abduction routinely seen in other comics; this issue tries to take on all aspects of UFOs in one easily digestible package. If you're a novice concerning flying disks, this is the comic for you. This 68 page Giant issue is chock full of the history, types of UFOS, types of aliens that could possibly be inside, the US effort to build a UFO prototype, real life encounters and anything else you could possibly think of concerning UFOs. As well of a back cover pin-up of the cover for kids to tack on their wall. All this with no commercial interruptions (the issue has no advertisements).
Despite the interest in UFOs at the time, I'm not completely sure that this issue sold exceptionally well as the second issue would take one year before being released. Regardless, this title had greater legs then the others despite an erratic publishing schedule; running 25 issues before being canceled in 1980 when UFO mania was winding down after peaking again in the late 70s. If you're a comic collector and have any interest in UFOs, this is the title to seek out....
